SPRING CLEANING: MY CLOSET

My friend Nora offered to come over on her day off to help me organize my closet. I didn't even ask her. She was just hanging out at my house one day and looked around and was really bothered by my closet situation. The situation being I had my stuff in three different closets + one rolling rack. I am embarrassed that I let my closet get like this.

Ummm please don't judge me...

*Stuff your boots with old magazine's to keep their shape.

I am really proud of myself for filling up an extra large trash bag full of clothes and shoes.
Now we need to figure out what to do with this extra room.

Rules when going through your Closet:
- If you haven't worn it in 6 months you probably won't. Toss it
- Don't keep clothes you plan on wearing "someday" when your hair grows back out, if it comes back in style, or clothes that you plan on fitting into again.
- Only keep clothes that flatter/fit your current size.
- Only keep what you love.
- Do not put empty hangers back in closet, donate them.
-If you think "maybe this will come back in style" it probably will but you probably want the new version.

DONATE to:

-Friends
-Ask your Church
-Womens Shelter
-Buffalo Exchange
-Plato's Closet

What I learned after organizing
I have way too many plaid shirts.
I don't need anymore T-shits. Nora said "It's not like people will remember you in that, it's not a statement piece."
I don't need to add to my sweatpant/workout/sleep stash.
I am happier when organized.

Thank God Jacob made us the most delicious sandwiches and got us wine to keep us happy during all this hard work. And SUPER THANKS to Nora who gave up her day off to help a Cray Cray in need.

*If you have a hard time getting rid of things try watching Hoarders. My friend Natalie gave me that tip!

Annie-
Thanks, I got them at a place called Texas Junk here in my neighborhood. Back in high school my uncle took me and I got 3 pair of boots for $90 dollars. They have a whole room just boots from floor to ceiling. AMAZING!

Nora calls them my BUTCH shoes:) ha

I just spring cleaned my closet yesterday. Boy was it fun.

I use old wine bottles to keep my boots standing up. I can never manage to remember to take them in for recycling, so they just started to become my boot stands & I love that they function that way now!

I'm totally guilty of the: "i'll wear this when i get back to that size!" thing...
Maybe I should go ahead and get rid of that stuff...It's so hard, though!

You guys really did a lovely job!

I recently had to go through my closet as well and filled three trash bags! It felt so freeing :) It's so much easier to put outfits together when your closet is organized!

HAA!! I'm not the only one who uses Hoarders as motivation!! After 2 episodes I go in crazy purging mode and go through my several boxes of "stuff i have no where to put but can't throw away".

But don't eat while watching Hoarders...I made that mistake :(

A couple exceptions:
Those who live in places where there's a winter- the 6 month rule wouldn't apply to seasonal items

Pregnancy- I PRAY TO GOD these clothes fit again one day.... =(

Very inspirational! I recently cleaned out my closet due to nesting and have bags n bags to donate to local clothing re-vampers now.

It looks amazing! I always start out strong when I'm on a mission to organize my closet but the energy fizzles quickly. Sadly I don't have Nora who can help. But next time I'll try your tips + hoarders + wine + sandwiches.

Alrighty. This has totally inspired me. I just went digging through my garage for an old shoe organizer. I have a closet in my little home office where i keep all of my etsy inventory and it's turning into an enormous mess! must organize vintage shoes!

Hahaha this is an awesome post with awesome advice! After one big purge and haul last summer, I find that it's easier to keep up with it, checking in on my closet every few months or so to see if I'm still hanging onto things I thought I'd wear during the last purge.

It's also a great excuse to go to Buffalo Exchange and get new stuff!
